⎓ An updated overview of the exhibition fragile currents ⎓
27 Jan – 7 March, 2027
Akademie der Künste (Hanseatenweg)

Thirteen artworks are spread across the three exhibition halls of Akademie der Künste, including films, large-scale installations, sculptures, and playable games, as well as more contemplative approaches towards the materiality of our everyday technologies.

Archival Stations connect the works to wider sets of practices and ideas assembled from transmediale’s history.

At the centre of the exhibition, the installation Ruined Assembly hosts the public programme and features research on technological infrastructures of power alongside mappings of counter-infrastructures developed collectively by researchers and cultural institutions.

Gravity Will Take Us All by Zeno Gries
Part of the exhibition Emergent Conditions
3 – 8 Nov, transmediale studio

Norbert Wiener, the creator of cybernetics, was himself critical of automation and its effects on humans and society. His work nonetheless enabled technologies such as large language models, systems that are now set to replace humans in both work and emotional life. The film by Zeno Gries reconstructs a speculative account of his death in Stockholm in 1964, with text adapted from his writings, set against drone footage of the city. It adresses sense-making through illusions of overview and control, and their eventual decline.

Next Tuesday offers a double programme: on the same evening as the Emergent Conditions opening our neighbours at
panke.gallery host a session of collective scrolling. A second stop for the evening ⇢

Emergent Conditions Opening
3 Nov, 18:00
transmediale studio

Emergent Conditions reflects on the tensions and bridges that emerge as synthetic agents acquire very human qualities. Three installations locate technology as something felt in the body, in memory, and in the rhythms of attention.

Collective Scroll #3: Nostalgia – Algorithms and Synthetic Memories
3 Nov, 19:00 – 21:00
panke.gallery

The live format, developed by Mudmap Magazine, explores how nostalgia takes shape online. From AI-generated visions of the past to pre-COVID aesthetics, the session scrolls through images, visual styles, and online communities that revisit, reconstruct, and often fabricate the past.

re- by Amanda E. Metzger
Part of the exhibition Emergent Conditions
3 – 8 Nov, transmediale studio

re- is a 3-channel circular projection that visitors can step inside. It traces the lossy nature of human and machine memory through a randomised composition of dance moves, set to a musical score that includes the artist’s own singing. The movements are blurred by machine learning models that imitate sleep cycles to resist “catastrophic forgetting.”

The work will be shown alongside that of Laura Benech and Zeno Gries at Emergent Conditions, opening next Tuesday as part of Berlin Science Week.

Emergent Conditions
Exhibition as part of Berlin Science Week

Opening: 3 Nov, 18:00
Exhibition Dates: 3 – 8 Nov, 2026
transmediale studio

In November the new works of two of our residents Amanda E. Metzger and Laura Benech are presented alongside a film work by Berlin based artist Zeno Gries at the exhibition Emergent Conditions. The exhibition reflects on the tensions and bridges that emerge as synthetic agents acquire very human qualities such as memory and voice. Its three installations locate technology as something felt in the body, in memory, and in the rhythms of attention.

BanKanga InterTropical
23 Oct, transmediale studio

16:00 Pre-Game: Communal hangout in the BanKanga Space

18:00 Protocol Activation: Feiticinhos – Casting Spells for a Post-Money Bank

If the globalised notion of a bank originated from the italian banca, the merchant’s bench, what might a bank look like if it had emerged elsewhere?

BanKanga imagines the banks' foundations not as wood but as cloth: the canga of Brazil and the khanga of the Swahili Coast. These textiles unfold as temporary grounds for gathering, carrying, offering, resting, and exchanging.

A communal hangout is followed by an interTropical protocol activation, where the temporary community is invited to cast spells for a post-money bank, invoking a gradually growing infrastructure of reciprocity.

With Luiza Crosman, Théo Ferreira Gomes, Juan Pablo García Sossa, Pablo Somonte Ruano, and Tatyana Zambrano

What if we cool bodies instead of servers? The first session of The School of Algorithmic Solidarity explored other ways of sensing and acting in a ventilator-filled environment. Thank you to all who took part ✳︎

For those who missed it, two more School sessions in November and December still have registration open:
