The Tears of Anas ibn Mālik: When Even the Prayer Was Neglected!Imām al-Zuhrī (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said:
“I entered upon Anas ibn Mālik (may Allāh be pleased with him) in Damascus while he was weeping.
So I said:
‘What makes you weep?!’
He replied:
‘I do not recognise anything from what I experienced [during the time of the Prophet ﷺ] except this prayer, and even this prayer has been neglected.’”
📚Narrated by al-Bukhārī (nos. 529 and 530), Aḥmad in al-Musnad (3/100–101, 270), al-Tirmidhī (no. 2447), Ibn al-Mubārak in al-Zuhd (no. 1512).
Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Rajab al-Ḥanbalī (may Allāh have mercy upon him) said in Fatḥ al-Bārī (3/56):
“Anas ibn Mālik was only weeping over the neglect of the prayer because its prescribed times were being neglected.”
This was because al-Ḥajjāj used to delay the prayers beyond their prescribed times, to the extent that he would perform the Ẓuhr and ʿAṣr prayers around sunset.

A Call to Daughters
O daughter, seize the opportunity you have while you are in the warmth of your parents' care.
Memorize the Qur'aan, increase in acquiring beneficial knowledge, and attend useful and beneficial lessons before marriage, responsibility, and children.
Look at the women around you after marriage; many of them are preoccupied and find no time to review, memorize, and benefit. All that remains is a broken heart, filled with regret and remorse. The fortunate one is she who learns from the mistakes of others, not from her own, as Abdullaah ibn Mas'ood (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: "The wretched one is he who is wretched in his mother's womb, and the fortunate one is he who learns from the mistakes of others." (Narrated by Muslim in the first hadith, no. 2645).

Fear Allāh, Remain Patient, and Hold Firmly to the Muslim Community! — The Advice of Abū Masʿūd al-AnṣārīThe noble Companion Abū Masʿūd ʿUqbah ibn ʿAmr al-Anṣārī al-Badrī (may Allāh be pleased with him).
It is narrated from Yusayr ibn ʿAmr, who said:
“We accompanied Abū Masʿūd to see him off when he set out on a journey. He stopped along the road to al-Qādisiyyah and entered a garden, where he relieved himself and wiped over his socks.
Then he came out, with water still dripping from his beard.
So we said to him:
‘Give us some advice to hold on to, for the people have fallen into trials and turmoil, and we do not know whether we will meet you again after today.’
He replied:
‘Fear Allāh and be patient until a righteous person finds rest [through death], or the people are given relief from an evil person [through his death]. And you must hold firmly to the Muslim community, for indeed, Allāh will not unite His Ummah upon misguidance.’”
📚 Narrated by Ibn Abī Shaybah in al-Muṣannaf (no. 37192) and al-Lālakāʾī in Sharḥ Uṣūl Iʿtiqād Ahl al-Sunnah (1/122).
The Beautiful Etiquette of the Companions: Sitting Wherever the Gathering Ends!It is narrated from the noble Companion, Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allāh be pleased with him), who said:
“Whenever we came to the Prophet (may Allāh send His peace and blessings upon him and his family), each one of us would sit wherever there was space at the end of the gathering.”
📚 Narrated by Imām Aḥmad in al-Musnad (5/91, 107–108; nos. 20924 and 21116
The great scholar, Shaykh al-Albānī (may Allāh have mercy upon him), said:
“In this ḥadīth, there is a reminder of one of the etiquettes of gatherings during the time of the Prophet (may Allāh send His peace and blessings upon him), which people today have so often neglected—even the people of knowledge.
And that is that when a man enters a gathering, he should sit wherever the gathering ends, even if that is at the threshold of the door.
So if he finds a place such as this, he should sit there and should not expect someone already seated in the gathering to rise from his place for him, as some of the arrogant leaders and the haughty pretenders to scholarship do.”

♦ Eating What is LawfulAllah says in surah al-Baqarah:
أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ كُلُوا مِمَّا فِي الْأَرْضِ حَلَالًا طَيِّبًا وَلَا تَتَّبِعُوا خُطُوَاتِ الشَّيْطَانِ ۚ إِنَّهُ لَكُمْ عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ
O mankind, eat of what is lawful and good on the earth and do not follow the footsteps of the shaytaan. He is certainly a clear enemy to you. [2:168]
Commenting on part of this ayah, Imam al-Qurtubi رحمه الله wrote:
قال سهل بن عبد الله : النجاة في ثلاثة : أكل الحلال ، وأداء الفرائض ، والاقتداء بالنبي صلى الله عليه وسلم . وقال أبو عبد الله الساجي واسمه سعيد بن يزيد : خمس خصال بها تمام العلم ، وهي : معرفة الله عز وجل ، ومعرفة الحق وإخلاص العمل لله ، والعمل على السنة ، وأكل الحلال ، فإن فقدت واحدة لم يرفع العمل . ـ
Sahl ibn ‘Abdullah رحمه الله said: Salvation lies in three things:
1) Eating what is lawful
2) Fulfilling the obligations, and
3) Following the example of the Prophet ﷺ.
Abu ‘Abdullah al-Saji – whose name is Sa’eed ibn Yazeed – said: There are five qualities which bring about well-rounded knowledge:
1) Knowing Allah,
2) Knowing the truth,
3) Making one’s deeds sincerely for Allah,
4) Doing one’s deeds according to the Sunnah, and
5) Eating what is lawful.
But if you are missing any one of these things your deeds will not be raised up [i.e. accepted].

Worldly Advancement Is Not Proof That a People Are Upon the TruthAllah, the Exalted, said:﴿ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ النَّاسِ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ يَعْلَمُونَ ظَاهِرًا مِّنَ الْحَيَاةِ الدُّنْيَا وَهُمْ عَنِ الْآخِرَةِ هُمْ غَافِلُونَ ﴾“But most of mankind know not. They know only the outside appearance of the life of the world, and they are heedless of the Hereafter.” (Sūrah al-Rūm, 30:6–7)The eminent scholar Muḥammad al-Amīn al-Shinqīṭī, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:“Know that it is obligatory upon every Muslim in this era to reflect deeply upon this verse from Sūrah al-Rūm, and to explain what it indicates to everyone among the people whom he is able to explain it to.The clarification of this is that among the greatest trials of the latter times with which Allah has tested those Muslims of weak understanding is the great proficiency of the Europeans in the affairs of worldly life, their skill in them despite their great number and varied forms, alongside the inability of the Muslims to match them in that.So they imagined that whoever is capable of such worldly achievements must therefore be upon the truth, and that whoever is incapable of them is backward and is not upon the truth. This is gross ignorance and a grave error.”📚 Aḍwāʾ al-Bayān fī Īḍāḥ al-Qurʾān bi-l-Qurʾān, vol. 6, p. 166.
Do Not Violate the Honour of OthersShaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Saʿdī, may Allah have mercy upon him, said:“Beware of violating the honour of people, for in that lies destruction, the loss of good deeds, an increase in liabilities, a decrease in īmān, dignity and esteem, and a descent from the highest levels of character to its lowest.Whoever looks carefully at the one afflicted with speaking against the honour of people will be greatly astonished. What benefit does he gain from criticising someone he hates and speaking against him?!Rather, this only reveals his own deficiency, the weakness of his intellect and his foolishness. For sound intellect only calls a person to occupy himself with that which brings some religious or worldly benefit, whereas this brings harm in both. And it is foolishness, because he takes the most precious thing he possesses and his most valuable treasure—his good deeds—and gifts them to the person he hates most.”📚 Majmūʿ al-Fawāʾid, p. 153.
The Servants of the Most Merciful Walk with Humility and Respond to Ignorance with PeaceAllah, the Exalted, said:﴿ وَعِبَادُ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الَّذِينَ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ قَالُوا سَلَامًا ﴾“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth with humility, and when the ignorant address them, they say words of peace.” (Sūrah al-Furqān, 25:63)Shaykh ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Nāṣir al-Saʿdī (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:“Servitude to Allah is of two types:The first is servitude to His Lordship. In this, all of creation share alike: the Muslim and the disbeliever, the righteous and the wicked. All of them are servants of Allah, under His Lordship and His management.Allah, the Exalted, said:﴿ إِنْ كُلُّ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ إِلَّا آتِي الرَّحْمَٰنِ عَبْدًا ﴾‘There is no one in the heavens and the earth but that he comes to the Most Merciful as a servant.’The second is servitude to His divinity, worship, and mercy. This is the servitude of His Prophets and His awliyāʾ, and this is what is intended here. For this reason, He attributed them to His Name, al-Raḥmān, as an indication that they only reached this state through His mercy. He then mentioned that their characteristics are the most complete of characteristics and their qualities are the finest of qualities. He described them as:﴿ يَمْشُونَ عَلَى الْأَرْضِ هَوْنًا ﴾‘They walk upon the earth with humility.’Meaning: calmly and humbly toward Allah and toward the creation. So this is a description of their dignity, tranquillity, and humility before Allah and His servants. And His saying:﴿ وَإِذَا خَاطَبَهُمُ الْجَاهِلُونَ ﴾‘And when the ignorant address them…’Meaning: when they address them with the speech of ignorance. And His saying:﴿ قَالُوا سَلَامًا ﴾‘They say words of peace.’Meaning: they respond to them with speech by which they remain safe from sin, and they do not respond to the ignorance of the ignorant with ignorance of their own. This is praise for them because of their great forbearance, their responding to evil with good, their pardoning of the ignorant, and the soundness and composure of intellect that brought them to this state.”📚 Taysīr al-Karīm al-Raḥmān fī Tafsīr Kalām al-Mannān, tafsīr of Sūrah al-Furqān, 25:63.
Al-khaashi' الخاشع (one who is humbly submissive) is the one who finds tranquility in the worship of Allaah, the Most High, free from all imperfections.[Tafseer al-Baghawee 1/44.
